Our Doctors

Dr. Stephanie Marquette, DVM

Veterinarian, Owner

Dr. Stephanie is the proud owner of Cassells Animal Hospital. Her degrees in business and veterinary medicine make her a strong leader for our team. Having always practiced in the north her entire career without easy access to referral or emergency hospitals, Dr. Stephanie will confidently rise up to the challenge. Her path to her current position at Cassells first started in Stratford, Ontario where she was born and raised on a mixed farming operation until the age of 13, when she moved to Alberta with her parents. She remained in Alberta until she moved to Saskatchewan where she attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. Upon graduation in 2003 she moved to North Bay to be closer to family and joined the veterinary team at Cassells Animal Hospital. Outside of her doctor duties, Dr. Stephanie is the Mother of two amazing kids. As far as furry critters, she has 3 cats with the ingenious names of: Big Fuzz, Lil’ Fuzz, and Orange Fuzz; all of them varieties of orange cats (her favourite). Never one to just sit around, Dr. Stephanie is a busy lady enjoying many outdoor activities like hockey, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing in the winter; and in the summer, camping, boating and water skiing. Clients enjoy her down to earth, compassionate nature with a practical approach to medicine and so will you!

Dr. Melanie Eckensviller, DVM

Dr. Melanie was born in New Liskeard and raised in North Bay. From a young age she had always dreamed to be a veterinarian. Her studies lead her to the Ontario Veterinary College, where she graduated in 2009. From the time she graduated, Dr. Melanie practiced in North Bay and surrounding areas and is well known for her sensitive caring qualities. She joined the veterinary team at Cassells Animal Hospital in 2015 and has enjoyed building relationships with our amazing clientele, making each and everyone feel special and heard. Dr. Melanie has a special interest in ophthalmology, internal medicine, and ultrasound. In early 2017, she pursued special training in ultrasound. She since has worked very hard to perfect her skills, using this tool to provide a more effective and less invasive mode of diagnosis for our patients. When not wearing her Doctor hat, Dr. Melanie is quite busy balancing a family life with her husband and three children. Besides her human children, she has two feline babies named “Charlie” and her newest addition “Frankie”. As a family, they enjoy the outdoors, working in their vegetable garden, and observing their backyard fauna of deer, birds and squirrels. Dr. Melanie will quickly win you over with her sweet and friendly personality.

Dr. Janyk Laferriere, DVM

Dr. Janyk knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She pursued her studies at the University of Guelph/Ontario Veterinary College and graduated in 2006. Shortly after graduating, Dr. Janyk started working in a busy companion animal hospital in Barrie, where she worked for almost 10 years. Being born and raised in Sturgeon Falls, both her and her husband were happy to make the move back to the north to raise their two beautiful children. Dr. Janyk has a few pets of her own, a lovebird they call “Noosk”, who also answers to other names but not “Be Quiet”. They also have two cats, an orange and white tabby girl named Andie, and a Tortoise shell named Rizzo – her special girl! She joined the Cassells team in September 2016, where she has continued to grow and thrive as a veterinarian. Although she loves every part of medicine, she particularly enjoys feline medicine, dermatology, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery. Raised in a French family herself, Dr. Janyk is fluent in both French and English and is ready to communicate with you in either language. Dr. Janyk will have you smiling with her witty nature and feeling comfortable with her devotion and care she will give to your furry family. She will leave no stone unturned in an effort to solve your pet’s health issues or seek information regarding their diagnosis and how to best proceed.

Our Care Team

Client Services, Supervisor

Tiffany has been part of the Cassells team for many years. First being hired in May 2007, many of you have come to know Tiffany’s friendly face very well; your pets will also know her for her infinite stash of treats. Tiffany brings loyalty and a lot of heart to this practice. Over the years, she has come to know many ins and outs of the daily function of the hospital and certainly is a great asset on this team to make sure everything runs smoothly. When not working, Tiffany enjoys spending time with her furry family Tawny & Onyx – her canine children and Beau, Boo & Izzy – her feline children. She takes in the great outdoors and fresh air by taking her dogs for walks and hikes along some of the beautiful trails around North Bay. She also enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family at the family cottage.

Client Services

Like many of us on the team, Dana was born and raised in North Bay. She initially attended Canadore College and graduated with a degree in Culinary and Food Nutrition. But always knowing that her true passion was caring for and working with animals, she studied and obtained her degree in Animal Sciences all while working at the Edmonton Humane Society and Spay/neuter clinic. Originally leaving the Cassells team to follow her husband’s employment re-location, we were ecstatic when Dana’s situation once again brought her to North Bay in 2017. She brings a wealth of knowledge and work experience that makes her an amazing all-around team member. She is both great as a client services representative and with lending a confident helping hand with patient handling and veterinary/technician assistance. On her spare time, Dana enjoys spending time with her long time feline companion “Kiddy Boots” and most of all her young daughter and husband. Dana and her family will be expecting baby #2 in December 2018 and we wish her all the best as she will be temporarily leaving us to care for her newborn and will be re-joining our team once again late 2019.

Client Services

Cyndi joined our hospital team in 2018. Having worked as an Expeditor for Home Depot and then in another veterinary hospital for over 10 years (since 2007), she brings forth people skills and work experience that have benefited our existing team. Cyndi’s heart and compassion towards people and animals help make her a true gem on our client service team. She is that friendly face when you come in and that kind voice when you call. When not working at the hospital, Cyndi enjoys spending quality time with her husband and three children. Of course she also has 2 chocolate labs Finn & Emma, as well as 2 cats Prance & Hank. She is also a special guardian to other furry and feathered creatures and has a special place in her heart for the sick and injured. If there is time left in the day, Cyndi also has a love for gardening and painting.

Registered Veterinary Technician

Ashley was born and raised right here in North Bay. She initially pursued her post-secondary studies in human medicine but then realized that it wasn’t her true passion. She refocused her career goals in the field of veterinary medicine and attended the Northern College in New Liskeard. She first obtained her certificate for Veterinary Assistant, then continued on to receive a diploma for Veterinary Technician and obtained her “registered” status in 2017. Ashley joined our team of technicians shortly after graduation in 2017. She is a quick learner and loves to help and assist in more complicated or interesting surgical cases. We have to commend her on how quickly she has mastered “kitty massages” and she is able to lend a gentle hand to help settle those unhappy or squirmy felines. Ashley has a sweet kitty named Middy, whom she adopted from the Northern College in 2015. When Ashley isn’t working hard at the hospital, you can find her keeping fit at the gym, enjoying the outdoors on a hike, or cozying up with a good book.

Registered Veterinary Technician

Brandy is one of our newest team members joining our hospital in 2018. Growing up with the thought of working with animals, Brandy eventually attended St-Clair College and received her diploma as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in 2005. She has worked as a RVT for more than a decade in Southern Ontario. She brings a lot of skills and extensive work experience to our team. Brandy’s calm and confident personality is also valuable in those tough and high-stress situations. Born and raised in Mount Forest, a small town in South-Western Ontario, relocating to North Bay with her husband in 2017 was no issue. Her home consists of 2 dogs, Arlo & Cody and 2 cats, Hank & Dublin. In her spare time, she enjoys walking the dogs, going to the cottage, and spending time with family and friends. “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” – Anatole France
